  • Hello!

I've done a bunch of searches, but haven't managed to find much about how to use Spine on a Canvas. I found this topic: http://fr.esotericsoftware.com/forum/Spine-asset-to-Unity-s-UI-7071 but it wasn't much help.

Basically, I've managed to get my animation to appear in the scene view, but it's not showing up in the game view. (See attachment below).
I'm a bit of a novice with Unity UI (it took me long enough to even place the animation where I wanted it because of Rect Transform...), so please don't hesitate to suggest things that might seem totally obvious! The various components slapped onto it are copied from the black bar image, since that was actually showing up.

Many thanks, any help greatly appreciated :-)

Edit: I should add I'm on Unity 5.3.3 and Spine 2.1.27. Updating is, sadly, not currently an option.

  • Hi there,

I'm having this problem too, and thought I might ask if perhaps the answer has changed since this was originally posted 3.5 years ago! Spine has seen some great new features since, so I wondered if maybe this has been fixed yet?

If not, I understand the principle of using 3+ keyframes to achieve the rotation, but am not quite sure how to combine it nicely with Curves. (I'm trying to have a full 360 degree turn with an S-curve, if that makes sense)

    Thanks! :-)

  • Hello :-)

Sorry for the epic bump on this old thread, but I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to set a slot to null.

I'm trying to make a project in which each animation shows only the section I'm animating. I've read in a few places that setting slots to null would be the best approach, but I can't work out how.

    Thanks very much!

    EDIT:

Please ignore! I just found it.

  • Hi Shiu,

That is extremely helpful, thanks so much. I also found the video tutorial you made on it, and downloaded the example for a closer look. This should be the breakthrough I needed! haha

    Many thanks :-)

  • Hello,

Thanks both for the replies :-) Yes, I had a feeling when I was doing it that I really should have been using bones. I'm still quite new at this! I think I understand what you're saying though, BinaryCats.

Shiu, that vine is spectacular and exactly the kind of thing I'm trying to achieve! Would you please be able to shed a little light on how you did it? The part I'm most curious about is getting things to grow out from a particular spot, for example that smaller stem with the leaf at the end - how did you get it to grow from that spot on the vine? Was it a finished frame squished down into one spot that you gradually stretched out again? Any tips would be hugely appreciated!!

  • Hi all,

I have animated a tree growing. There's a main trunk, and then I want lots of branches coming off it. I've animated one of the branches nicely, and if I was able to duplicate it and put it in lots of places that would be a huge time saver. Then I can work from there to give them some more variety.

The growing branch is just an animated mesh image. I found this post here: Duplicate Animation to another Element but I wasn't able to recreate the effect described.

    Can anyone help, please?
Many many thanks in advance! :-)

  • Hi BinaryCats and Tianyi.Zhang!

Thanks so much for your replies! Sorry I didn't reply until now - I thought I'd get an e-mail if the thread had activity.

I think I understand... I'll give this a go, but don't be surprised if you see me again! haha
Here's hoping that masking can be added in a later update.

    Many thanks again :-)

  • Hi all,

I'm really new to Spine, and I have a simple problem that I just can't work out how to solve! I'm very sorry if this is obvious / already been asked, but I wasn't able to find anything in the User Guide / Forum Search, possibly since I'm not quite sure what to search...

    Here's the problem:

I have a lever for a 2D game, so it just gets placed on the ground. I want it so that the middle section spins when the lever is pulled, as indicated in this picture:

Of course, when I try to rotate a semi-circle it's not going to look like a wheel, it will just look wrong and leave a gap where it was. So surely I need to use a full circle! But then, how do I hide the lower half of the lever which is supposed to be underground, indicated in this image:

Any help would be hugely appreciated. Again, sorry if this is a really basic question! Many thanks in advance :-)
