Sometimes I notice that bones are getting reset at unexpected times.

This consistently turns out to be due to another animation toggling a slot I didn't expect. Fixing it resolves the issue... but I realized this leads me to the question: "What else changes this slot?"

Is there an easy way to find this out? If not, where would I put in a request for this feature?

Or am I alone in wanting this?

select the slot, go through each animation, if the dopesheet is blank, that anim doesn't effect that slot

Sometimes attachments shown for your slots depend on game state. If they don't, you can reset all the slots to the setup post any time you change animations. If they do, you can explicitly set the all the slots any time you change animations. Eg, you might set them all to the setup pose, then set the weapon and armor slots based on what the player should be wearing. Or it may be easier to selectively set slots to the setup pose and leave other slots alone any time an animation changes.
