It's probably the same, just showing the pixels and without JPEG compression.
The point is that the image is 4px wide, so will always be off by 1px. Why don't we use an image that has an odd numbered dimension? We do! The source images are odd but the images are not just displayed at one size. They are scaled depending zoom level, the Bone scale setting, bone local scale, inherited scale.
