Why are images 90 degrees rotated when dropped?
I love a lot about the Spine interface, but one thing I don't get and because of that it feels unintuitive to me;
When viewing an image by hovering over it in the tree it shows exactly as exported from the design software.
But when dropping the same image on a bone in the Tree, or when hovering them over the viewport, that image gets rotated 90 degrees.
I now find myself correcting images all the time, but I can't believe everybody needs to do this all the time, so I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here.
What am I doing wrong? How can we drop images on bones in the tree or in the viewport without them being 90 degrees rotated, so as-is?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, spineappletree
The rotation of the images that you dropped into the viewport will be defined by the parent bone’s rotation. Therefore, if you drop an image while you select a bone that is rotated 90 degrees, the dropped image will be rotated 90 degrees as well.
In general, root bone has 0 degrees so you can put the images keeping 0 degrees by parenting to root bone first. Then, you can set the image’s parent to the bone you want to parent.
A smarter way is to use the Set Parent
button. After selecting the image you want to place, press the P
key or the Set Parent
button at the bottom of the Tree view, and then select the actual bone you want to parent to place the image without rotating it.

Cool! I've never knew about that button. Great to have both ways; to be able to drop them rotated OR non-rotated!
Thanks , I am glad I've posted this question here and happy that I now know it!
I'm glad you're happy
