With a Wacom pen:

  1. How can I zoom and scroll the timeline view without having to manually drag the zoom slider or scroll bar. I tried the U/J key but it only works in the viewport for some reason.

  2. How can I scroll the Tree view (any list view actually) without having to manually drag the scrollbar. I tried the U/J again it doesn't work.

I want to be able to zoom and scroll as easy as I can in 3D programs or Photoshop with a pen by holding down a quick easy to reach short cut.
I Photoshop you just hold down Space or Z, works like a charm!
In Blender you can pan/scroll and zoom in lists and panels the way you navigate the rest of the view ports. Super nice!

As it's right now I need to lift my hand and use the scroll wheel on my mouse next to the tablet and this has led me to use the pen less and mouse more which is not as ergonomic and annoying when switching from painting in Photoshop, maybe there is a solution I'm missing?

In 4.0+, dragging with the right mouse button will pan the dopesheet either up/down or left/right. This doesn't work for the tree and other scrollable areas, but it should

we'll make it happen.

We'll also make the U and J hotkeys work for scrollable areas. Until then there's not a great way to zoom the timeline/dopesheet using a pen. You could click/drag the slider at the bottom left of the dopesheet view, but I know this can be sensitive. Otherwise the next best thing would probably be to hover the timeline and use the mouse wheel.

In the graph view U and J work like the viewport. Also note you can zoom the graph by holding alt and dragging with the right mouse button.

@Nate Could you make it so that a Wacom pen would zoom by RMB dragging with the pen in the timeline area where you zoom with the scroll wheel?

Hmm. If we did that then the timeline view would not be able to pan with RMB.

@Nate I don't think I was clear enough, you only need the ruler area for zooming with the pen, as that's the only area you can zoom with a mouse anyway so it would be intuitive as well.

I understood, but we have a timeline view which shows only the timeline. For that view there is no area below and it needs to be able to both zoom and pan. Ideally that view would work the same way as the timeline in the dopesheet, graph, and audio views.

@Nate What about having the option to use MMB and as well as a 2 mouse button backup version where one use a modifier key like (alt/shift/ctrl)+RMB for zoom?

BTW I use MMB a lot with my Wacom pen in 3D software to zoom and it works really well.

@Nate Any thoughts on using MMB and/or ctrl+RMB for zooming?

Ideally we use modifiers consistently within Spine. So far Spine uses MMB for selection everywhere, usually as a way of making a new box selection even when there is already a selection (otherwise you'd have to deselect, then box select).

In the graph we use alt+RMB for zoom, so that could make sense for the timeline (in all views with a timeline). I've made a note so we'll add that.
